Long ago Max was inspired to make a better cam. One that was lighter but had tremendous expansion range, exceeding that of other present day cams. The result is the MAX CAM, refined and perfected to offer the leader sure-fire protection - smooth triggering, a comfortable (and clipable) loop stem and of course a two position, variable length sling. Oh, before I forget - these new trick cams have a 2:1 expansion range, weigh about the same as other single axle cams and less than most dual axle models.
MAX CAMS are brilliantly simple and therefore easily understood. Think of a traditional cam with one solid continuous axle. Now segment this axle into 3 pieces - the center piece supporting the inboard cam lobes and the outer cam lobes pivoting from an eccentric point on the inner lobes. This is what creates their awesome expansion range - from tips to stacked hands - and also allows them to conform to radically flared cracks. Because each MAX CAM fits a substantially wider range of crack sizes, pods and pockets - chances are greatly improved that the MAX CAM you pick off your rack will offer easy placement and solid protection for your next lead.
